MA Wood Producers and MA Farm Bureau Now Offer Joint Membership

MA Wood Producers and MA Farm Bureau
Now Offer Joint Membership

Berkshire Hardwoods Crew
The Massachusetts Wood Producers Association (MWPA), a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the business climate for the forest products industry while promoting management of Massachusetts' forests, has joined forces with the Massachusetts Farm Bureau Federation, which promotes and represents the interests of farmers in the Commonwealth, to offer a joint membership, according to MWPA president, Jeff Poirier.

“The Massachusetts Wood Producers Association working together with the MA Farm Bureau is a natural fit,” Poirier stated.  “The Farm Bureau has always recognized the important role forest land management plays in agriculture.  For example, the Bureau operates a Forest Viability Enhancement Program to suggest ways for the forest landowner to increase the economic return from the forest-based business through ecologically sustainable methods such as more efficient production of specialty products, niche marketing, direct marketing, value-added initiatives, eco-tourism, and improved management practices.”

“Kent Lage, the director of Forest Programs at the Bureau will serve as the chief contact for the joint membership,” Poirier continued.  “Among other activities, Kent will suggest legislative bills that would be appropriate for MWPA testimony or comment and will help draft suggested testimony or comment.”  Lage is the former Executive Director of the Massachusetts Wood Producers Association.

For further information on membership, contact the Massachusetts Wood Producers Association, P.O. Box 455, Northampton, MA 01061, or call Telephone-  1-413-296-4546, or visit the MWPA website at to learn more about the organization.  The Massachusetts Wood Producers Association is on Facebook at
