"Farm, Field and Forest - Living with the Land" September 25 at the Orange Town Hall

Plans are underway to create a region-wide event, "Farm, Field & Forest: Living with the Land," scheduled for September 25 at the Orange Town Hall and the White Elephant in Orange, Massachusetts.  The focus of the event is Building Local Economies and will feature workshops, panel discussions, demonstrations, displays, PowerPoint presentations, videos and an art and photography exhibit.  The event is free and open to the public.

Members of the farming and wood products industry, wildlife and wilderness experts and others who are land-based in their work, sportsmen and women and people who work in ecotourism will serve as presenters. Writers who focus on past land use and history will also be invited as special guests as well as members of local historic societies and people who were raised on farms and would like to share their experiences.

"Farm, Field and Forest" will look at sustainable farming and forestry, bee keeping, maple sugaring, mushroom harvesting, sustenance hunting and fishing and use of wood or farm-based energy sources such as small-scale CHP biomass and cordwood.  Renewable energy such as hydropower, solar, wind, geothermal, biofuels, plus conservation and other energy saving strategies will also be discussed.
A further emphasis will be on environmental impacts of land use and how they might be mitigated through wise stewardship and modern technology.

We are currently looking for exhibitors and disussion leaders and others who would like to be part of planning this exciting event.  For further information, please contact the organizer, Genevieve Fraser, Tel. (978) 544-1872; or Email:
